On April 19, 2025, a unique sports event took place in Kyiv, symbolizing the resilience of Ukrainian sports even in times of war.

As part of the festival at the MIDGARD educational space, Ukraine’s largest fencing lesson was held and officially entered into the National Registry of Records. 91 participants — children and coaches — took part in this historic moment for Ukrainian sports.

A Large-Scale Lesson Supporting Youth Sports

The event was initiated by the Ukrainian brand Unic Fencing, which actively works to restore and promote fencing among children and youth.

Due to the war, sports schools, especially in frontline zones, have lost the ability to operate safely. This lesson was not just a record, but a signal of support for children’s sports in difficult times.

The goal was to show that even during war, sports remain accessible to children eager to grow and develop.

Why This Event Matters for Ukraine

The record became a symbol of the resilience of communities that don’t wait for change, but create it. The war has forced many children to quit sports or seek opportunities only in private sectors or abroad.

Unic Fencing opened a free fencing school in Kharkiv where children can train even during martial law. Yet, the school is only a third full — hence, this lesson was organized as a call to action.
